Why STEM? (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)
 STEM education is innovative, rigorous, progressive and hands-on
 Develops collaborative problem-solving skills
 Enhances critical thinking and creativity
 Prepares students for future success in higher education, careers and everyday life


Current SHA STEM status
 Hands-on and virtual Science Lab created for students in KP through 12th grade
 iPad technology for KP through 6th graders
 1:1 Chromebook program for students in grades 7 through 12


SHA’s STEM goals
 On-going professional development for teachers to integrate technology in existing curriculum
 Chromebooks to increase student engagement and enhance academic rigor
 Sustainability of STEM efforts through advancement opportunities, contributions, and grants
 Create a STEM network of professionals, mentors, and educators to speak with students
 Advise students regarding STEM-related careers


Cost for STEM
 Original STEM investment is almost $500,000, which was donated by alumni and friends of SHA
 A STEM Fund has been established within the SHA Foundation which will provide on-going support
