The SHA 50 Books Program was designed to address the disturbing literacy problem among American teenagers. In an effort to encourage reading as a lifetime activity, we have also added summer reading to our list of required and outside reading books for the school year. Each book has been selected to address the reading level of the student as well as to provide an "easy read" for summer vacation. Students will be given a brief test over these books the first day of school. Middle school students have one book to read; high school students have two books to read.
If the student has read the book, he/she should have no problem for the test. No in-depth study is required. Just read and enjoy! Be sure to pick up your summer reading before leaving and return your books to your English teacher in the fall.
